Exciting new research is showing that positive age beliefs can help protect against dementia, even for those with higher risk factors. This study is the first time that the correlation between someone's perspective on aging and their risk for dementia has been researched and I feel encouraged that the so far the results look promising.
Our age beliefs are shaped by many different factors including our cultural background. In many cultures, elders are respected and revered for their wisdom while in other cultures people will go to great lengths to prevent any sign of aging. Luckily, our age belief is something that we can take control of and change. Not only is having a positive outlook on aging proving to be helpful against dementia, it's also shown to reduce stress at any age.
